We love to see our merchants getting involved and helping out local causes in the Denver community. On Saturday April 14th from 12-2PM Ten Thousand Villages will be hosting women involved with The Card Project. The Card Project is led by nonprofit organization The Gathering Place to help battered women express themselves and earn money through art. Women who participate create handmade note cards that are sold at The Gathering Place as well as many retailers around Denver.  The women receive $1.50 per card that is sold, helping them gather money to spend on food and other necessities.  The financial benefits of this project are underscored by the women’s increase in self esteem, the opportunity to be part of a caring community, as well as the support and love they receive from others around them.  Ten Thousand Villages and their customers love the handmade cards and are very excited to be hosting The Card Project in their store!  Come by and support the cause by purchasing some of these one-of-a-kind handmade cards to use for your next birthday note, thank you note, or whatever the event may be.

The Story Behind YSL

Posted on March 29

When people think of fashion in America there are usually only a few cities that come to mind – New York and LA.  Thanks to a man named Christoph Heinrich, Denver has recently made its mark on the fashion world.  Christoph Heinrich, director of the Denver Art Museum, was on his annual trip to Paris when he found himself standing in line for the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition.  Never having been much of a ‘fashi onisto’ Heinrich was astonished by the exhibition, and left realizing YSL’s important influence on the fashion world.  As soon as he returned home to Denver, Heinrich took the initiative and phoned the Fondation Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent.  He wanted the exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.  And the rest is history.

Spilled Ink

Posted on February 22

If you haven’t already noticed, Ink! Coffee has been on lock down since December 23rd due to an in-store mishap.  It wasn’t coffee grinds that caused the close but rather a major water-main break, leaving Ink flooded and without power.  Owner Keith Herbert was a little disgruntled by the mess as any coffee owner would be, but he and his team are doing everything they can to get Ink cleaned up and running again.  When they reopen, they plan to have a grand party with free coffee and treats for all of their wonderful customers that were inconvenienced by the closure.  The exact date has not been set for the grand reopening – but stay tuned for the announcement!  Oh and if you haven’t noticed the banner hanging outside the store front explaining the situation, it’s worth taking a look.  It reads:

“Closed due to a huge water main break. Thanks water main, you hosed everyone who loved Ink! Coffee. Anyone have a mop?"
