Raise your Drambuie because May is the month to toast the classics. On May 4th, Audrey Hepburn’s birthday, we pay tribute to the pearl necklace, the updo and the wild-thing freedom Audrey Hepburn (and Holly Golightly) first introduced to us. And of course, we will revere the single greatest and most iconic fashion asset: the little black dress. Over time you may hear pink is the new black and green is the new pink but there is not now, nor ever will be, a replacement for the little black dress.

Shop

Little Black Dress
The Little Black Dress depot in Cherry Creek North is White House | Black Market at 180 Clayton St. Audrey’s personal fav was the sheath dress, but there is a style for every taste and body type. The Jacquard Tank Dress is vintage and the Sleeveless Drapeneck Dress (as seen on the Today Show) is ultra modern. White House | Black Market carries 14 styles of the perfect little black dress and a variety of black and white patterned frocks too. They also offer the little black skirt, the little black shorts and the little black capris—very practical for summer, albeit perhaps not Tiffany’s. Shop at www.whitehouseblackmarket.com.
Shades of Grace
Sunglasses are, of course, de rigueur for the Hepburn look. No handbag, belt or stiletto will add to your cool factor and your health as much. And because of the elevation in our Mile High City, UV protection is especially important. Europtics at 100 Fillmore St. carries the latest styles of sun-protective and fashionable eyewear from 60 designers. Oliver Peoples is our haute Hepburn pick. You’ll also find Onasis styles, Bonos, Teashades, aviators and Wayfarers—see every fashion statement at www.europtics.net.
Paris When it Sizzles
Hermès, the very stylish, very chic, very very Paris shop for fashion, silk, accessories, jewelry, fragrances and more just opened in Cherry Creek North at First and Fillmore streets. Come in for the gossamer silk scarves, colorful enamel jewelry and exquisitely smooth leather of the summer line. Hats to handbags -- tres magnifique! It’s hot at www.hermes.com.
Funny Feet
If a girl wants to dance, a girl wants to dance. The dancing shoes that flirt and feel femme fabulous must also offer arch support come last call. At Samantha Castilla shoe boutique, at 226 Steele St., at you will find THE pair. And at up to 60% off of the spring and summer collection (including designers Christian Lacroix, Emillio Pucci, Juicy Couture and Marc Jacobs), you’ll have one more reason to cut a rug. For a night on the town we recommend the vibrant colors of the Cynthia Vincent Twelfth Street collection, and for low-key groovin’ try the Hollywould metallic ballet slippers. Express yourself at www.samanthacastilla.com.

Dine + Drink

Roman Holiday
So it’s not exactly a Roman Holiday, but Tuscan will do nicely. The perfect Italian getaway in Denver can be found at Piatti Locali, 109 St. Paul St. in Cherry Creek North. When you look out on the Venezia terrace you will be transported to Tuscany. The menu offers authentic regional Italian food made with fresh local ingredients, expertly paired with an exquisite wine list. If you’re watching your girlish figure, Piatti earned Westword’s recognition as home to the best Caesar Salad in Denver. Check it all out at www.piatti.com. Buon appetito!
A New Flavor to the Old Bubbly
Holly Golightly and Paul drink champagne at any hour – with Breakfast at Tiffany’s even – so they would simply love the frizzante at NoRTH, 190 Clayton Lane. Champagne with a lively splash of fresh fruit puree is light and fizzy drink anytime (between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays and until 11 p.m. weekends, that is). Brush up on your Italian and order yours in fragola (strawberry), pesca (white peach), bacce (berry), frutto della passione (passion fruit), arancia rossa (orange scarlett) and pera (pear). Even diamonds envy their sparkle, darling. www.foxrestaurantconcepts.com/north.html.
My Fair Loose Tea
Cano’s Collection and Welsh Dragon Tea Shoppe at 235 Fillmore St. is just the place you’d imagine Professor Higgins – or is that ‘iggins? -- would go for a Shepard’s pie. Possibly Cherry Creek’s best-kept secret, this traditional teashop is open for lunch and dinner and, obviously, afternoon tea. English black loose leaf is served with scones in a quaint atmosphere, and you can also find souvenirs straight from Eliza Doolittle’s motherland. The capacity is only 16, so you’d better keep this under your ascot hat. Visit a telephone box and dial 303-322-0654 for details.

Spa

I Do, You Do, We All Do The Updo
Updo season—weddings, graduations and lawn parties spring up faster than petunias. The perfect updo can add sophistication to your look and will provide a little relief from the heat. Pinned-up curls, circa junior prom, are out. Holly Golightly’s updo had just the right element of bouffant—extra height slenderizes the face the way a vertical-striped shirt elongates the waist. Consider it the revenge of the beehive…and we’re not teasing. Antoine du Chez at 2nd and Clayton will do your do for $65-$115. Visit www.antoineduchez.com.
The One and Only
The true person to celebrate this May is the most timeless, classic beauty of them all. She let you toy with her pearls when you were an infant, she allowed you to stumble around in her heels, she treated you to your first manicure and introduced you to Emily Post. It’s your mother. Celebrate Mom this May 10th. Pamper her at Zuri Spa at 3rd and Steele. Right now the Spa Ma deal is only $125 for a spa facial and spa massage ($160 value). Check out www.zurisalonspa.com.
