December 01, 2009

The hap-hap-iest season of all also means the social season of the year. So as your dance card fills with open houses followed by family fetes and gossip sessions with old friends, stock your bar with glassware and spirits, your fridge with hors d’oeuvres, your pantry with hostess gifts galore and your closet with party wear. Forget sugar and spice, it’s a little glitz and glamour that ups the fun and festivity.

Make A List. Check It Twice
You better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout, I’m telling you why: Cherry Creek North is holding a holiday VIP shopping, dining and refreshment extravaganza that’s sure to land you on the “Nice” list this Christmas. But you’d better be more rapid than eagles and dash right away: A Night at the North Pole is this Thursday , December 3, and is sure to be the highlight of your holidays. This is a signature Cherry Creek North event, presented by Denver Magazine to benefit ArtReach Denver. For one night only, enjoy an evening of holiday shopping with over 50 participating Cherry Creek North stores, including 10 fantastic cocktail stops and over 20 delicious food stops along the way. There will be savings, giveaways, enter-to-wins and special in-store events – and all for only $25! The festivities begin with a 6 p.m. check-in at the NorthCreek Residential Sales office at 2800 E. 2nd Ave., where North Pole visitors will receive a wristband for admission. Then enjoy two-and-a-half hours of shopping, eating and refreshment throughout Cherry Creek North, all culminating in a cocktail reception at the Second Home Kitchen and Bar in the JW Marriott at 150 Clayton Lane. Santa has only two requests: you must be 21, and good for goodness sake. Tickets available at www.denvermagazine.com/northpole.

DANCER

My Boogie Shoes
Samatha Castilla knows shoes – after all, you have to stay stylish when you’re the regular arm candy (read: The Mrs.) of a hunky former Colorado Rockies star player. Her Samantha Castilla Shoe Boutique at 226 Steele St. offers the dancing shoes and party pumps that will make your season bright. In addition to Casadei studded-stilettos from Italy, she also carries You by Crocs, the line that fuses pretty and practical in the form of metallic boots and Mary Janes that can rock and roll all night and party every day.

PRANCER

Personal Style
When you invite people into your home, you are inviting them to see your personal style; it is how they truly get to know you. So show them your best this magic season with home furnishings and entertaining essentials from West Elm at 2955 E. 1st Ave. The metallic twist glassware is especially festive, and the store’s selection of serving pieces and trays is large enough to host even the biggest party, and it's easy to clean. Just for the holidays, designer David Stark has created an entire collection of sparkly home accessories for West Elm – and don’t forget: decorating is half the fun.

VIXEN

The Perfect Party Dress
The perfect party is nothing without the perfect party dress. BCBGMAXAZRIA at 105 Fillmore St. in Cherry Creek North has taffeta, lace, satin and, of course, sequins – all ideal for the office holiday party and mom’s Christmas Eve bash, right through to your hot date on New Year’s Eve. There is champagne to sip, dresses to don and dancing to be done. Good thing it’s all during sales season!

COMET

Colorful Kitchen
If you can’t stand the heat – go to someone else’s kitchen. Come to Cucina Colore at 3041 E. 3rd Ave. This Italian “colorful kitchen” has a contemporary and warm feel and you don’t have to do the dishes. Lunch, dinner and dessert menus offer hearty Italian-inspired options that are perfect for any occasion and, of course, all holiday celebrations. The signature starter is the pan seared black muscles. Our very favorite dish is the house lobster ravioli, and Cucina Colore also has a variety of pan-fired pizza for picky eaters of all ages. Whatever you do, don’t miss the wine list.

CUPID

Whimsical, Wonderful Folk Art
If you are looking for unique, handcrafted ornaments to deck your halls, the spirit of the season can be found at West SouthWest Gallery, 237 Fillmore. Folk artist Delbert Buck keeps the imagination alive with a whimsical holiday collection of Santa riding into town both by ostrich and airplane. It is also a great stop for gifts of art, jewelry, figurines and pottery. Come by Saturday, December 5th to mingle with the artists.

DONNER

Say Cheese!
No matter your holiday traditions, it’s cheese log season! When guests stop in or when you need just the right hostess gift that you can buy in bulk to dole out to each of your friends and bring to the last-minute parties, just say cheese. Come in to Continental Deli at 250 Steele St. for everyone’s favorite fromage: French Brie, varieties of Swiss, German, Danish, Norwegian, and Dutch favorites, as well as domestic cheeses. If nothing else, you’ll score creativity points and your friends will have something to eat and serve with all the wine the other guests will bring as gifts.

BLITZEN

The Spirits of the Season
A cup of cheer is always a key ingredient to any holiday fete, so gather your favorite eggnog recipe and pull the sleigh up to Chateau Liquors at 2627 E. 2nd Ave. to help you add spirit to the season Whether you prefer rum, bourbon, whiskey or something else in the nog to warm your guests, Chateau Liquors is the spot in Cherry Creek North to raise the spirits of Christmas Present. (Personally, this year we’re going with butterscotch schnapps eggnog). Besides, with its drive-through window Chateau is especially convenient for last-minute party needs or desperate dashes in case you run short.
