“What was she doing at that Halloween party? Two words: orange sangria....”

“Oh did you see Ellen DeGeneres last week? She was wearing Etro and Luciano Barbera. Well, I heard from Penny Parker it was from the Cherry Creek North Lawrence Covell boutique….”

We will be the first to admit we love a good coffee klatch. And when winter weather strikes, the only defense is to stay warm and caffeinated. There’s always something steamy in Cherry Creek North.

Caffeinate

In the Joe
Connoisseurs of acidity, body, flavor and aroma are everywhere here in Cherry Creek North. No, we don’t feature wine in every issue: this time we mean coffee. Whole Foods Market at 2375 E. 1st Ave. not only serves it up right – there’s a whole coffee bar inside with lattes, et al -- they are experts in the coffee and tea industry. In accordance with the Whole Trade Guarantee, they have Fair Trade practice partners including Allegro coffee. Whole Foods offers a large selection of beans, ground coffee, a grinder and all of the fixins’. Plus, they are prepared to give you the low down on the brew how-to.
Lip Service
Chocolate beverages and lipstick under one roof—it’s surprising a combination this sybaritic is even legal. Pekoe Sip House, inside Origins at 3000 E. 1st Ave., offers a large selection of black, green, white, oolong, puerh, chai, herbal, rooibos, honeybush, mate and lapacho teas, and that’s good. But it gets even better: they have teamed with Conscious Coffee to bring you the java and espresso beverages you crave too. And if that isn’t enough to get you bright-eyed and ready for the day, try Origins new GinZing refreshing eye cream: it’s like a shot of espresso for tired eyes.
Hot Spot
Café Colorado at 287 Columbine Street is more than a coffee shop. Specialty drinks, free wifi and weekend entertainment define its unique personality. And hazelnut lovers can go beyond coffee with the fine taste of Nutella. If you are undecided on your stance on coffee v. tea, try the dirty chai (the house chai with a shot of espresso), and for the crème de la crème of specialty lattes, the tuxedo is an espresso drink of blended vanilla and chocolate. Yummmmm. Info: 303-377-8902.
What a Drip
The hub or any coffee season is, of course, Starbucks, and fortunately for coffee lovers the iconic shop has two Cherry Creek North hubs. Head to either 2701 E. 3rd or 200 Fillmore St. to find the season’s signature blended beverage: the pumpkin spice latte. The down-home pumpkin flavor reminds us of a simpler time before wifi and kindle when we would go to coffee shops and read books. Remember books? Starbucks was named after the first mate in Moby Dick, a great book, and ever in favor of robust classics, we recommend Starbucks for a great drip.
A Perfect Match
As if the hand-crafted toffee, assortment of Stephanie’s chocolates and the premium ice cream shoppe were not enough, Enstrom’s at 201 University Blvd. also has a Gourmet Espresso Bar and Internet Café inside. The way to kick the winter doldrums is with Enstrom’s world-renowned almond toffee and an espresso by its side. Toffee and coffee: twin delights!
Back to Basics
ink! Coffee at 2415 2nd Ave is all about the fundamentals, and good coffee starts with the beans. Despite the inviting atmosphere, sometimes you just want to call it a snow day and enjoy your joe from home. Coffee aromas and flavors vary with regional characteristics and the beans – or “roasted art” in ink!speak -- come all the way from South America, Central America, Indonesia and Africa. Let ink! help you find your favorite coffee to enjoy at home, at ink! or everywhere in between.
So You’re Hooked?
Have a coffee habit – a Joe-nes? Peet’s Coffee & Tea at 2500 E. 2nd has seduced so many coffee lovers it has cultivated a following of Peetniks. This is a special breed of coffee dependants that isn’t getting up in the morning without the guarantee of Peet’s coffee, so by popular demand, recurring home delivery is available. And right now you can get a 50% discount on shipping. Drink on!
Bring the Barista Home
Crate & Barrel at 101 Clayton Lane will equip you to bring the flavor of your favorite coffee shop into your own home. They have everything from the simple, everyday thermal coffee maker to espresso centers and frothing pitchers. Just like fashion, the accessories make all the difference. Trust us: invest in the thermometer, the tea infuser stick or the tea bag squeezer. They also offer all the glassware you need to serve your guests in style—may we suggest Irish coffee?
Cherry Creek North and Denver Arts Week November 6-14
The only thing that is as sophisticated but comes in even more flavors than lattes is art. They are a natural pair because they are uniquely blended and can be enjoyed as much alone as with others. They’re great fixtures of conversation too. And on November 6-14, Cherry Creek North will be serving it up for Denver Arts Week. We have 13 vibrant cultural stops on our First Friday Art Walk (see map below). Info: http://cherrycreeknorth.com/events/featured/denver-arts-week-first-friday-festivities/
