WHAT: Grand Opening celebration for “The New North”

WHERE: Fillmore Plaza (100 Fillmore Street, Denver, CO 80206)

WHEN: Saturday, June 25, 2011

Background:

The Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) will host the first public event on the new Fillmore Plaza, a free festival to celebrate the completion of its $18.5 million streetscape project “The New North”. This is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. The design and construction costs for “The New North” were paid for by the BID. No City funds were used.

Event Schedule:

  • 2:00 PM: Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) Vidal, Denver City Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, Cherry Creek BID President & CEO Julie Bender and AEG Live Rocky Mountain President Chuck Morris welcome the audience
  • 2:15 – 3:15 PM: Haunted Windchimes
  • 3:30 PM: Cherry Creek Dance
  • 3:45 – 4:45 PM: Lannie Garrett and the Gypsy Swing Revue
  • 4:50 PM: Best Yo-Yo competitors from the Wizard’s Chest
  • 5:00 PM: Cherry Creek Dance
  • 5:15 – 6:15 PM: Sons and Brothers
  • 6:40 PM: Boba Fett and the Americans
  • 7:00 – 8:00 PM: Flash Cadillac

Media Notes:

  • SUNGLASSES: The first 1,000 people on Fillmore Plaza will receive a complimentary pair of cherry red sunglasses with a special QR code they can scan with their smartphones for information about the weekend-long merchant specials. This will be a great visual of hundreds of people and kids on the plaza wearing their cherry red glasses!
  • TV LIVE SHOTS: We welcome the opportunity to work with TV stations on live shots on Friday, June 24 or Saturday, June 25. We can set up the shots and provide a spokesperson wherever is most convenient for you – please contact us to make this as easy as possible for you.
  • PHOTOGRAPHERS: We will be able to offer you different vantage points to shoot from, including nearby rooftop access if desired. Please contact us if you are interested in assistance.

About the CCNBID: The Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 1989 as the first business improvement district in Colorado. The District encompasses a sixteen block (27 acres) area, bounded by 1st and 3rd Avenues and University and Steele Streets. The BID is a governmental special district chartered by State Statute. The District provides essential services that support property owners, merchants, and other users of the District that would otherwise not be available. The BID is governed by a board of directors that is appointed by the Mayor of Denver, approved by the Denver City Council, and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and Council. Property taxes from the District property owners are the primary source of financial support. Based upon annual revenues, the Cherry Creek North BID is the second largest in Colorado.
