Cherry Creek North is about to get a new look. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the redesign of Fillmore Plaza.
The area sits between Fillmore Street and East 2nd Avenue.
The new Fillmore Plaza is the final phase of The New North project, an $18.5 million renovation of Cherry Creek North.
The redesign was funded by bond sales and will not use any city tax dollars to build.
"The project has been many years in the making. The district hired the best designers and the best contractors: the best team to put the project together. And to see it get built - that was very exciting," Julie Bender, CEO of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District, said.
The new space will allow for both cars and pedestrians.
However, it will be closed off at various times throughout the year for events such as the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and the Cherry Creek North Food & Wine Festival.
