Improvements At Cherry Creek North Nearly Complete

CBS4, November 13th 2010

Holiday shoppers might find some changes to Cherry Creek North as the new improvements are almost finished.

Smart meters are taking the place of parking kiosks. There's also energy-efficient lighting along the streets, new plants along the walkways and better signs.

They are the first improvements to the shopping area in 20 years, and many were driven by customer feedback.

"Well certainly the new store directories at every intersection, the new lighting is going to make it a much better nighttime environment within the district, the new landscaping will be beautiful to look at," said Julie Bender, Business District President.

Cost of the project was $18.5 million that was paid for by the more than 300 businesses in the district.

It also looks like a winter wonder land in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The mall debuted this year's holiday theme, which is the Ice Palace. It's designed to look like it was carved from ice.

Santa was even on hand Friday evening. The exhibit also features highlights from the upcoming "Chronicles of Narnia" movie.
