Nuggets’ Chris “Birdman” Andersen, Broncos’ Darrell Reid each to don the big red coat as a 2009 fundraising “Celebrity Santa” for Cherry Creek North

Cherry Creek North announced today that Chris “Birdman” Andersen of the Denver Nuggets and Darrell Reid of the Denver Broncos have each volunteered to put on the big red coat and hat and appear as a 2009 “Celebrity Santa” in December at the JW Marriott in Cherry Creek North for a fun way to raise funds for charity.

Andersen will appear as Santa on Sunday, December 13 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Reid will appear as Santa on Friday, December 18 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Tickets to tell Christmas wishes to a “Celebrity Santa” are $10 each, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to each player’s charity. Andersen supports ACE (Alliance for Choice in Education) http://www.acescholarships.org and Reid supports the Footz Foundation http://dreid95.com/foundation.html. Fans who purchase tickets may have one item autographed by the player. Tickets are limited and expected to sellout quickly. Also, a very limited number of exclusive VIP Packages are also available, which include the opportunity to attend a special 30-minute VIP reception with a “Celebrity Santa”, are available for $100 each. All proceeds go to charity.

Tickets to both “Celebrity Santa” appearances go on sale Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 AM through Denver Magazine’s website at http://www.denvermagazine.com/celebritysanta. Tickets will be required for admittance and each person will also receive special holiday promotional discounts and offers for shopping in Cherry Creek North.

“Not every day do you have the chance to see a Santa who is 6-foot-10 or a Santa who is 270 pounds,” said Julie Bender, Cherry Creek North’s President/CEO. “This is a great way for people to celebrate the season in Cherry Creek North with two very generous and popular Denver athletes and to help two great charities at the same time.”

Andersen has become one of Colorado’s most recognizable athletes since returning to the Nuggets in 2008. The “Birdman’s” high-energy, high-flying style of basketball helped the Nuggets advance to the 2009 Western Conference Finals. Reid is one of the cornerstones of the resurgent Broncos defense. As one of the team’s leading lineman, he has recorded a career-high four sacks and forced a fumble already this year.
