Denver – April 21, 2011 – Six life-size pirate mannequins have been spotted pillaging and plundering for treasure throughout Cherry Creek North. The caricatures were installed over the past two weeks and are located throughout the shopping district including on a bench in front of Starbucks on 2nd & Fillmore and hanging from a tree at 2nd & Clayton. The pirates will inhabit the area through mid-August as part of an effort to increase awareness of the immersive blockbuster exhibition Real Pirates now at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

Shoppers and visitors are enjoying the pirates, with many smiling, laughing, and even posing for photos near the figures. Additional pirates are now on display at Denver International Airport and are set to appear soon in Downtown Denver.

“Now that our renovations and art and garden spaces in Cherry Creek North are almost complete, we are excited to collaborate with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on the Real Pirates exhibit because of course, Cherry Creek North is one of the first places pirates would go to plunder for treasure in Denver,” said Julie Bender, President/CEO of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District.

Real Pirates: the Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship explores the Golden Age of Piracy and features more than 200 artifacts, including cannons, swords, coins, gold, and jewelry, recovered off the coast of Cape Cod from the first authenticated pirate ship discovered in U.S. waters.
