PISMO Fine Art Glass, Colorado’s foremost gallery for glass art, celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 30th.
PISMO opened its first location in Cherry Creek North (Denver) in 1990 as a mixed media gallery, and switched primarily to glass in 1995. Owner Sandy Sardella operates three additional galleries in Colorado: PISMO Gallery at Beaver Creek (opened in 1997), PISMO Gallery at Vail (2002) and PISMO Gallery at Aspen (2003).
Sandy attributes her long time success to her wonderful, friendly, well-informed staff that makes clients’ visits a pleasure whether they are casual admirers or serious, museum quality collectors. And, Sandy says, “We owe a lot of our success to our loyal customers who have supported us over the past twenty years. They enjoy coming to the gallery to see what’s new. We’re always bringing in new works by emerging artists as well as our well-established artists. We aren’t afraid to try something different”.
Just as PISMO has evolved over the past twenty years, so has glass art. Sandy says, “We’ve had the opportunity to host many world renowned artists – Dale Chihuly visited the gallery in 1995 for the grand opening of our then new location and Lino Tagliapietra (arguably the best glass artist in the world), now 75, has visited the gallery five times and will be coming again on July 17th for his sixth solo exhibition at the gallery.”
The PISMO galleries are recognized internationally for the breadth and depth of their collections. The gallery is often compared to a museum due to its large selection of works by many other world renowned artists in addition to Chihuly and Tagliapietra. We also enjoy representing and mentoring emerging artists, helping to boost their recognition in the field of glass.
Sandy loves glass art and has thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of introducing the medium to thousands of people. She says, “I’ve always said I will continue to do this as long as I’m having fun. And I’m still having fun… most days!”
