In addition to being the hottest spot in town for the best deals, there is a new twist this year. On Saturday, July 23, Cherry Creek North will become an extension of the popular Lemonade Day, when the streets will be filled with dozens of young entrepreneurs running their own lemonade stands. There are a limited number of spaces left for kids that still want to participate in this fun event. Applications are online at http://www.cherrycreeknorth.com.

  • Sidewalk Sale Thursday, July 21 – Sunday, July 24, 2011
    Thurs-Sat: 10 am – 6 pm; Sun: 10 am – 5 pm (some stores may vary)
  • Lemonade Stands Saturday, July 23
    Sat: 10 am – 2 pm

This year’s Sidewalk Sale continues a string of good news for the District. Last month, the BID received 2010 sales tax collection data from the City of Denver. Cherry Creek North’s sales tax increase of 16 percent over the previous year more than doubled the surrounding areas. The District’s totals for 2010 eclipsed both 2009 and 2008 figures and nearly equaled its pre-recession 2007 levels.

It is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. The design and construction costs were paid for by the BID. No City funds were used for the project.

Last weekend, Cherry Creek North hosted the 21st Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival which drew hundreds of thousands of people into the District for this popular event. The BID was also honored to receive this year’s Distinguished Patron award by the Festival, for its role as host over the last two decades.

Cherry Creek North economic indicators continue to be strong

Year-end figures for 2010 show large upswings for the District

DENVER – A very successful fourth quarter in 2010 provided more evidence that Cherry Creek North remains a leader in the retail recovery in Colorado, based on 2010 year-end sales tax receipt figures the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) received from the City of Denver. Sales tax collections in Cherry Creek North were up 16 percent compared to 2009, highlighted by the fourth quarter of 2010, which was up a robust 26 percent over the fourth quarter of 2009.

Cherry Creek North’s sales tax increase of 16 percent over the previous year more than doubled the surrounding areas. Compared to 2009, sales tax receipts in 2010 were up 6.5 percent for Colorado, 7.1 percent for the Denver Metro Area and 6.5 percent in the City of Denver. The District’s totals for 2010 eclipsed both 2009 and 2008 figures and nearly equaled its pre-recession 2007 levels.

“We are excited that Cherry Creek North remains on the leading edge of the overall retail recovery,” said CCNBID President and CEO Julie Bender. “These gains occurred while the District’s streetscape project, ‘The New North’ was completing construction. We’re already seeing signs that this will have a long-term impact. New merchants are moving into the area to join strong, established businesses.”

Restaurant/hotel sales tax collections continue to lead the way in Cherry Creek North. Sales tax collections in this retail category were up 24 percent in 2010 over 2009. Clothing and accessories were up 17 percent and home furnishings were up 13 percent.

Retail vacancies have also dropped from 13 percent to 9 percent over the last two years. Only halfway through 2011, 21 new businesses have already opened in Cherry Creek North.

The BID’s self-funded $18.5 million streetscape project (“The New North”) will be substantially complete on June 25 when Cherry Creek North hosts a grand opening celebration on the renovated Fillmore Plaza. This free festival for the public starts at 2:00 PM with musical performances from Flash Cadillac, Sons and Brothers, Lannie Garrett and the Gypsy Swing Review and Haunted Windchimes. “The New North” project includes new landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, better identity and wayfinding signage, 20 new Art and Garden spaces and upgraded infrastructure. It is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. The design and construction costs are paid for by the BID. No City funds were used for the project.

Cherry Creek North to celebrate “The New North” project completion

National and local musical acts to perform at free festival on Fillmore Plaza

DENVER – On June 25, 2011, the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) will celebrate the completion of “The New North”, its privately funded $18.5 million streetscape renovation project, with a free festival and concert on the new Fillmore Plaza.  Performers include Flash Cadillac, Sons and Brothers, Lannie Garrett and The Gypsy Swing Revue, and Haunted Windchimes. The entertainment is being sponsored by NorthCreek and tickets are not required.  Food and beverages will be available during the event.  Merchants will also be offering great specials and discounts throughout the weekend.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the culmination of what has been an extremely successful renovation project. During a difficult time in the economy, the BID financed, designed and built its first major streetscape project in 20 years”, said CCNBID President and CEO Julie Bender. “The improvements will serve Cherry Creek North and its visitors for many years to come.  The BID is grateful to NorthCreek for providing the entertainment for this event.”

“The New North” improvements include landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, better identity and way-finding signs, 20 Art and Garden places and upgraded infrastructure.  The final element was Fillmore Plaza, which has been redesigned as a hybrid plaza to enhance pedestrian, event and retail activity. Upgraded features include special trees and landscaping, lighting, environmental graphics, street furniture and a central canopy-like shade structure.  The new plaza will provide vehicular access and will also have the ability to be closed off throughout the year for events such as the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Sidewalk Sale, Cherry Creek North Food & Wine, and other CCN activities. The design and construction costs for the entire project were funded by the BID through the sale of its own bonds.  No City funds were used.

The BID worked with NorthCreek and AEG Live to bring a broad spectrum of music artists to the festival on June 25th.  “Flash Cadillac is a legendary band that has performed for over 40 years”, said Chuck Morris, President and CEO / AEG LIVE Rocky Mountains.  “From their performances on Happy Days and in the movie American Graffiti and their tours throughout America, they have been one of those great Colorado bands that has made us proud. Lannie Garrett equally has been putting on great music in this town for decades.  Finally Sons and Brothers and Haunted Windchimes are two amazing Colorado grown artists that are just starting to make waves and really contribute the amazing stage of music in Colorado. I love this entire line up and I’m thrilled they are performing for the opening of Fillmore Plaza.”

PISMO Exhibition of Works by Alex Gabriel Bernstein

PISMO Exhibition of Works by Alex Gabriel Bernstein

DENVER, CO, May 22, 2011 -- PISMO Fine Art Glass, Colorado’s foremost gallery for glass art, will present “Natural Progressions”, a solo exhibition of new works by glass artist Alex Gabriel Bernstein.  The exhibition will open in conjunction with the Cherry Creek Arts Festival on Saturday, July 2nd in PISMO’s Cherry Creek North gallery at 2770 E. Second Avenue.  The exhibit will run through July 21st.

Alex Gabriel Bernstein grew up in a creative environment with access to many of the talented artists of the American studio glass movement. The child of two established glass artists, Katherine and William Bernstein, Alex began “playing” in their studio at around age 7 and began “creating” some of his own designs in his teens. He branched out, developing his own distinctive style and today is one of the most foremost, innovative glass artists in the United States.

Alex says, “I feel as if I am an explorer. With each piece I make I prepare for a journey, I have a general idea where I want to go, but I never know where the path will lead me. Each piece I work on I set out in the hopes of discovering something new and exciting. As with any explorer, my journeys are filled with ups and downs, disappointments and breakthroughs, however with each piece I am sure to gain knowledge and insight which is the excitement that brings me to my studio every day.”

Alex is a master at casting and sculpting.  His techniques are as diverse as the sculptures he creates – from smooth to rough, from opaque to transparent, from organic to architectural.  His luminous creations draw you in, each piece telling its own story.

He begins his creative process by casting a shapeless block of glass. After a long cooling cycle in a kiln, he begins the subtractive process, not unlike a stone sculptor. Using grinders and saws, he shapes the glass by carving and polishing it into its final form. In some series, he then grinds steel filings directly on to areas of the glass to form a fused metal coating.

These textured, hard-edged metal sections are carefully composed with the carved glass sections to create the final sculpture. The glass areas have an almost organic nature, at times resembling flower petals, jagged ice, or crystals on a geological specimen. In this series, radiant, translucent glass emerges from the steel, expressing the idea of transformation. Life, as it unfolds and brings change, often combines seemingly contradictory aspects. For Alex the translucent, fragile, pure glass represents the interior life with its arrangement of cuts evoking life’s complexity. The metal, which is sometimes rusted and corroded to suggest the passing of time, expresses an earthy exterior which veils the inner life.  His work is a compelling expression of beauty, growth and transition.
Alex earned a Masters of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology, The School of American Crafts.  He has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Rochester Institute of Technology, the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass and the Penland School of Crafts.

Revampt Opens its Doors in Denver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Revampt, Cherry Creek North’s newest home furnishing store, opens its doors today in its newly renovated building at 2601 E. Third Avenue in Cherry Creek North. Revampt sells sensible, utilitarian, and affordable home furnishings, goods and gifts all made from recycled, repurposed, or reclaimed materials.

About the Owners
Revampt was incorporated in 2010 by co-founders Keir Myers, age 22, and Daniel Louis, age 26. Myers graduated from Colorado College with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Louis graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. The two young entrepreneurs were inspired by the idea of upcycling: the art of creating new products from materials that would otherwise be discarded in landfills or the environment. Myers, with a business background, was inspired by the economic implications of waste, “So much that is thrown away or wasted has continued utility- it just takes someone with inspiration and creativity to tap into that.” This attitude, combined with Louis’ art and architecture background, has been the driving force behind Revampt’s premise: even the building in which the business stands, one of Cherry Creek North’s oldest at least a century old, contains salvaged hardwood flooring, brickwork, and displays. Louis explains, “despite the fact that it has taken a long time, the store renovations were able to keep the original integrity, look, and feel of the historic building while adding in modern amenities to improve the utility, functionality, and life of the space.”

Product Offering

Cherry Creek North Leads Retail Recovery

Upcoming Fillmore Plaza improvements will add even more impact

DENVER – Providing another strong signal that Cherry Creek North is leading the retail recovery, the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) received encouraging sales tax figures that demonstrate growth and stability for the area.  The preliminary data from the City of Denver, which covers the first 3 quarters of 2010, shows that sales tax collections were up 9 percent.  This compares to a 7 percent increase for the City of Denver, 6 percent for the surrounding Metro area and 4 percent for the state of Colorado.

“We are absolutely thrilled with this new data as it shows our businesses are succeeding and growing,” said CCN BID President & CEO Julie Bender.  “It’s even more significant since these positive increases occurred while the District was undergoing a major streetscape renovation project, ‘The New North’.  It’s such a tribute to how the constituents in Cherry Creek North thrived while they were reinvesting in their own future.”

While the BID does not track vacancy by square footage, another positive sign for the District was that the number of businesses opening and closing was balanced in 2010.  Last year, the BID welcomed 35 new businesses.  In addition, 9 businesses relocated within the District, mostly to allow for expansion into larger spaces.

On February 3, the BID hosted Mayor Bill Vidal and Councilwoman Jeanne Robb for a special groundbreaking ceremony to begin work on Fillmore Plaza.  Those upgrades represent the final phase for “The New North,” an $18.5 million renovation of the entire District.  The construction on Fillmore Plaza will begin this month and will be substantially completed in time for the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in July.  Recent District-wide improvements included new landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, better identity and wayfinding, 20 new Art and Garden spaces and upgraded infrastructure.  It is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. The design and construction costs are paid for by the BID.  There are no City funds involved.

About the CCNBID: The Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 1989 as the first business improvement district in Colorado. The District encompasses a sixteen block (27 acres) area, bounded by 1st and 3rd Avenues and University and Steele Streets. The BID is a governmental special district chartered by State Statute. The District provides essential services that support property owners, merchants, and other users of the District that would otherwise not be available. The BID is governed by a board of directors that is appointed by the Mayor of Denver, approved by the Denver City Council, and serve at the pleasure of the Mayor and Council. Property taxes from the District property owners are the primary source of financial support. Based upon annual revenues, the Cherry Creek North BID is the second largest in Colorado.

THE NEW FILLMORE PLAZA: COMING SUMMER 2011

Press Kit

Cherry Creek North to begin work on the new and improved Fillmore Plaza

Renovations will be completed in time for Cherry Creek Arts Festival

DENVER – Feb. 3, 2010: Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) broke ground on the new improved design for Fillmore Plaza, which will enhance pedestrian, event and retail activity on that block, and have a major positive impact throughout the entire District. Upgraded features include special trees and landscaping, lighting, environmental graphics, street furniture and a central canopy-like shade structure. Fillmore Plaza will serve as a major gateway into Cherry Creek North from the District’s south side, allowing both cars and pedestrians to access the District from 1st Avenue. In addition, the new space will be closed off throughout the year for events such as the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Cherry Creek North Food & Wine, and other community activities.

“We are very pleased with the way this evolved,” said CCNBID President Julie Bender. “So many people were passionate about an outcome for Fillmore Plaza which would work for all interests. There was a great deal of conversation and creative thinking, which led us to a solution that is going to benefit businesses, shoppers, neighbors, and visitors alike.”

The new design has received widespread support from the community. The plan was initially approved by the BID Board in early 2010. The BID then facilitated an almost year-long collaborative discussion with the many stakeholders including BID constituents, the City of Denver, Denver City Councilwoman Jeanne Robb’s office, and surrounding neighborhoods. Last year, it received majority support from registered neighborhood organizations such as Cherry Creek North, Cherry Creek East, Country Club and Capitol Hill Neighborhood Associations. At its January 10, 2011 meeting, the Denver City Council unanimously approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City and County of Denver and the BID, which cleared the way for improvements to begin. The design and construction costs are paid for by the BID. There are no City funds involved.

The Fillmore Plaza upgrade is the final step for “The New North,” an $18.5 million renovation of the entire District. The construction on the entire project began in March 2010 and was substantially completed in October 2010. Recent improvements included new landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, better identity and wayfinding, 20 new Art and Garden spaces and upgraded infrastructure. It is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. In addition, the City of Denver included the District in their transition from parking kiosks to new customer-friendly Smart Meters last year.

Design Workshop and CommArts served as the project’s architects and landscape designers, Nolte and Associates handled program and construction management and the Weitz Company served as the general contractor for “The New North” project. Work on Fillmore Plaza will begin in February and the planned completion date is in time for the 2011 Cherry Creek Arts Festival in July.

Restaurant Aria Opens In Cherry Creek

Chef Michael Long Brings Signature, Award-Winning Cuisine to Denver

(DENVER) – Jan. 11, 2011 – What began as an Opus is now elevated to an Aria. The team that opened Littleton’s award-winning Opus Restaurant eight years ago has unveiled their new sister restaurant Aria at 250 Josephine Street in Cherry Creek North in December 2010.

While an opus refers to any artistic work on a grand scale or a set of compositions by a particular composer, aria meaning “air” in Italian, is an operatic term for an extended voice solo, or a melody. Together these restaurants form a complementary pairing bound with Chef Michael Long’s inspired New American cuisine.

Chef Long and his culinary team preside over a menu that combines updated classics, cutting edge new creations and a special chef’s tasting menu. Aria is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch and provides a reasonably priced fine dining experience.

Aria’s menus include updates of Chef Long’s most notable dishes and many new creations that highlight his playful yet intricate culinary philosophy. Appetizers from the dinner menu include Ramen Italiano ($9) fresh pasta, escarole broth, chicken and egg; Colorado Lamb Meatballs ($11) fresh mozzarella, Muir Glen fire roasted tomato sauce and parsley salad; Duck Duck Goose ($22) foie gras, goose confit, cured duck breast and cranberry.

Signature entrees include Harvest Grape Glazed Crisp Duckling ($27) sweet potato apple brulee, red wine cabbage and dried fruit chutney; Skillet Seared Filet of Beef ($33) bubble and squeak ravioli, red wine shallot jus, gorgonzola; and “Porterhouse” Beef Duet ($39) petite filet & sirloin, marrow bone, creamed spinach and mushroom sauté.

Lunch dishes are equally as interesting, including Goat Cheese and Pistachio Crusted Redbird Chicken ($14) shaved fennel, yukon potato cake, chicken jus; Bison “Pot Roast” Sandwich ($12) spiced braised bison, baby vegetables and gruyere cheese; and Colorado Lamb Pastrami Sandwich ($15) caramelized onions, provolone and country mustard as well as a three-course Chef’s Feature menu for $25.

Brunch is a mix of traditional dishes and updated classics, such as the Monte Cristo Benedict ($13) smoked turkey, pan perdu, roasted pork, hollandaise and raspberry jam; Seared Scal¬lop and Pecan Grits ($21) yellow grits, creole butter and green onion; Our Own Colorado Bison Corned Hash Cakes ($15) poached eggs, smoked paprika hollandaise and rye toast; and Applelicious French Toast ($13) our own apple “bread” with walnut syrup and warm granny smiths.

The wine list at Aria takes its cues from the best wine regions around the world, with a large selection of by the glass pours ranging from $9 - $19. The restaurant’s popular Wine Flight offers two ounce tasting pours of any three different wines by the glass for $17.

The list of signature cocktails is also noteworthy and gives a nod to its location in the heart of one of Denver’s most popular neighborhoods. Favorites include the Aria Espresso Martini ($12) shot of espresso, vanilla vodka and chocolate liquor; Colorado Rusty Nail ($12) Stranahan’s Colorado whiskey and Drambuie; The Cherry Creek ($12) cherry vodka, citrus vodka and cranberry; and 250 Josephine Margarita ($8) tequila, orange liquor, pineapple juice and lime.

Aria features a large dining room lined on one side with windows, allowing the natural light to pick up the burnt orange and eggplant hues found throughout the room. When combined with the artful presentation of each dish, the subtle metallic sculptures scattered around the restaurant present a perfect place to rest the eye. Additionally, the large patio can seat up to 35 guests. An intimate private dining room can be reserved for up to 20 people, and with two days notice, the Chef can prepare a special omakase-style dinner with off-the-menu dishes that reflect his whims for the day.

For more information on Aria, please visit dinearia.com or call 303.377.4012. Please follow Aria on Facebook and Twitter @RestaurantAria.

Executive Chef Michael Long

Having worked in kitchens since the age of 12, Chef Michael Long’s career has taken him from dishwasher at a neighborhood Italian joint in Florida to Aria, his new project in the heart of Cherry Creek. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park and has cooked in New York; Florida at Café Arugula, La Vielle Maison, then rated four Mobile stars, and Topaz Café and Porch; Prince Edward Island, Canada at The Inn at Boy Fortune under Food Network Canada personality Michael Smith; and South Carolina at Florence Country Club. Most recently, he headed up the team at Opus, Aria’s sister restaurant, for more than eight years.

Chef Long’s culinary philosophy is driven by the whimsical nature of creating dishes that entertain all senses while striving to present the finest food possible across a variety of cuisines. He is inspired by creating dishes people are familiar with, though always with a unique twist. The dishes found on the Aria menus reflect flavors and techniques Chef Long has picked up and perfected throughout his career.

Interesting career highlights include catering at the 1999 Masters Golf Tournament, cooking at the 2002 Winter Olympics and catering for several MLB, NBA and NHL teams. Chef Long is also a national spokesperson for Muir Glen Organic Tomatoes and Redbird Chicken. Locally, he has won several notable events such as First Place in the International Beer Festival 2010, “Best Chef” at the 2009 Denver International Wine Festival’s Taste of Elegance, “Best Grilled Cheese” at the Colorado Cheese Festival, and “Best Appetizer” at Beaujolais and Beyond.

About Dior

Time is precious in an Haute Couture House. The closer it gets to the day of the show, the more every second counts, the more every idea fuses together. And the more the seamstresses are seen to be making miracles; cutting, draping, sewing, embroidering and embellishing the most exceptional dresses imaginable. In Paris at Christian Dior, all the floors on 30 Avenue Montaigne live in step to the exciting and bustling rhythm of the Design Studio. Time is precious. In the real and in the figurative sense, since the House now creates Dior Timepieces, Haute Horlogerie made in the same spirit of creativity, excellence and exceptionalness as the elaboration of an Haute Couture dress.

Dior Haute Horlogerie is in a permanent state of creation. The Avenue Montaigne studios give free rein to their imagination making sketches and expressing their desires before they pass the relay onto expert Swiss watch-makers who make their ideas come to life.

In the same way that Christian Dior Couture turns to the finest craftsman specialized in feather or lace making or embroidery, Dior Horlogerie calls upon specialist talents when a designer imagines a concept or aesthetics that are not within the competence of the Ateliers Horlogers Dior: Quinting for its mysterious movement, Concepto for its Tourbillon caliber, Orny and Girardin for its “Dior 8 fuseaux horaires” movement, and Bunter for its Dior Christal Haute Couture passages.

Cherry Creek North unveils “The New North” in time for holiday season Retail sales are up

Cherry Creek North unveils "The New North" in time for holiday season Retail sales are up in the District this year

The Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District (BID) has substantially completed the major phase of its first streetscape improvements in more than 20 years, "The New North," bringing the construction project in on deadline and under budget, just in time for the 2010 holiday season.

"The New North" project is the culmination of an effort that began in 2006 with an election by the District's constituents that approved selling $18.5 million in bonds for the specific purpose of upgrading the area's streetscape. The BID successfully sold the bonds in two sales, one in October 2008 and one in September 2009; the BID was the first in Colorado to sell its own bonds.  The BID financed and managed the design and construction of "The New North" project.  The improvements are designed to retain and attract visitors and users, to protect and preserve the District's character, and to keep the District strong in a competitive retail environment.  Improvements include new landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, better identity and way-finding signs, 20 new Art and Garden places and upgraded infrastructure.

"This project is the result of the enormous effort of countless people. We could not be prouder of the finished results and we are thrilled that the timing has worked out perfectly for this year's holiday season," said Cherry Creek North BID President and CEO Julie Bender. "Thanks to the vision, energy and expertise of our Board members, staff, construction and design team, everybody from our constituents, customers, neighbors and visitors will benefit for many years to come."

Design Workshop served as the project's architects, Nolte and Associates handled program and construction management and the Weitz Company served as the general contractor.  The actual construction began in March 2010.

The completion of this phase is another milestone for the District during 2010.  In addition to completing the construction, the District hosted the 20th anniversary of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, its own successful Food & Wine event, and the 40th Annual Sidewalk Sale. New sales tax data from the City of Denver shows that the District saw a 12 percent increase in collections during the first four months of 2010 over the same period in 2009. This rate of increase was triple that of the City of Denver's or the surrounding metro area.

In addition, the City of Denver is including the District in their transition from parking kiosks to Smart Meters.  Steele Street has been converted and the rest of the District will have the new consumer-friendly technology by the end of the year.

The final phase of the streetscape project will be the renovation of Fillmore Plaza. The new hybrid design will enhance pedestrian, event and retail activity in the area.  The BID facilitated a collaborative discussion of the many stakeholders (including BID constituents, the City of Denver, Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, and surrounding neighborhoods) to achieve the current hybrid design.  The design was approved unanimously by the BID Board.  It also received majority support from the registered neighborhood organizations such as Cherry Creek North, Cherry Creek East and Country Club Neighborhood Associations.  Others that support the new design include experts within the City (Planning, Public Works, and Fire Department) and outside organizations (Transportation Solutions and the Cherry Creek Design Advisory Board).  The new design is the result of countless hours of work that was paid for by the BID and without any City funds.  Work on Fillmore Plaza will begin after the first of the year and is intended to be completed in time for the 2011 Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

PISMO Exhibition of Works by Steve Klein for Denver Arts Week

PISMO Fine Art Glass, Colorado’s foremost gallery for glass art, will present “Moments”, a solo exhibition of new works by internationally-renowned glass artist Steve Klein.  The exhibition, held in conjunction with Denver Arts Week, will open with a reception on Friday, November 5, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in PISMO’s Cherry Creek North location at 2770 E. Second Avenue.  The exhibition will run through November 24th.

Following a successful career running his own business, Steve pursued his passion for art in his 50s. He quickly became a major presence in the field and has been asked to teach kilnforming around the world. Steve’s work is held in museum collections in the US and internationally including Spain, Scotland, China and Israel.  Balance, compromise, resolution and humor are Steve’s criteria for life and happiness.  These are the attributes that are the embodiment of his work.

Steve says, “The three series that represent the focus of my work for this show differ in inspiration, yet are the result of considered contemplation and my desire to bring beauty to life. The fragility of glass and the sensuous beauty of the color and reflection make it the perfect vehicle to relive and share special moments.

The Exploration series began several years ago as a vehicle to explore personal relationships. Informed by the paintings of the abstract expressionist movement, I combine color and form to create an object of unified and resolved elements that reflect the wonderful but momentary feeling that I get viewing these masterpieces and resolving the complexity of personal relationships.

The ongoing Balance series addresses the awkward, confusing and, at times, uncomfortable moments that we experience in life. These objects poke fun at those situations and constantly remind me to look for the beauty and positive aspects in every situation.

The most recent series, Holding, delves into a personal realization that no matter how much we protect what we cherish and love in our lives, we cannot shelter or hold it forever. It is important to me to find what makes sense and what is positive in any circumstance; not to hide, but to embrace and celebrate what is.

With this work I seek to provide a moment away, a very small respite of beauty and solace from the everyday.”

SOL’s Bra Drive for The Gathering Place

Donate your bras and win 3 new bra and panty sets!  October marks the beginning of SOL’s Annual Bra Drive for The Gathering Place.  This year when you donate new or gently-worn bras during the month of October at SOL you will be entered to win 3 new fall bra & panty sets!  Make a difference for yourself AND someone else.

Since 2005 SOL has distributed more than 3500 bras to the women of The Gathering Place, Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who are experiencing homelessness or poverty.   But SOL owners Cindy Johnson and Jeanie Peterson along with SOL lingerie’s staff do more than just donate the bras. They go once each month to do the same private fittings they do for their Cherry Creek North customers, demonstrating a gentle touch and taking one more burden from the women The Gathering Place serves.  If none of the donated items fits a woman, SOL orders a brand new bra from a manufacturer free of charge.

PISMO Fine Art Glass, Colorado’s foremost gallery for glass art, has joined forces with the “Colorado Project” to benefit The Food Bank of the Rockies.  PISMO will host a reception and silent auction on October 8, 2010, at their Denver gallery - 2770 E. Second Avenue in Cherry Creek North.  The glass works to be auctioned have been donated by more than two dozen artists participating in the Colorado Project.  The participants include lamp workers from around the state and the nation.  100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to The Food Bank of the Rockies.  For those who would like a sneak preview, the auction items will be on display at PISMO starting October 6th.

In its second year, the Colorado Project is a 501(3) non-profit organization whose primary mission is to unite glass artists through philanthropic events and causes.  Over 300 glass artists participated in a weekend workshop this past July to collaborate in a non-competitive environment allowing them to share ideas and knowledge regarding their craft.  Many of the auction items were made that weekend.

The works include a beautiful wall installation titled “Metamorphosis”.  The piece is made in individual sections that measure a total of 37” high x 90” wide.  The piece emulates the transformation of a worm to a cocoon to a stunning butterfly.  Five artists collaborated to make this wonderful piece – Darby Holm, Ryan “Buck” Harris, Adam Grafuis, Alex Ubatuba, and Eusheen Goines.

The Colorado Project is sponsored by Northstar Glassworks, Glasscraft, Profitable Glass and Shack Man Glass.

PISMO Fine Art Glass

PISMO Fine Art Glass, Colorado’s foremost gallery for glass art, celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 30th.

PISMO opened its first location in Cherry Creek North (Denver) in 1990 as a mixed media gallery, and switched primarily to glass in 1995. Owner Sandy Sardella operates three additional galleries in Colorado: PISMO Gallery at Beaver Creek (opened in 1997), PISMO Gallery at Vail (2002) and PISMO Gallery at Aspen (2003).

Sandy attributes her long time success to her wonderful, friendly, well-informed staff that makes clients’ visits a pleasure whether they are casual admirers or serious, museum quality collectors.  And, Sandy says, “We owe a lot of our success to our loyal customers who have supported us over the past twenty years.  They enjoy coming to the gallery to see what’s new. We’re always bringing in new works by emerging artists as well as our well-established artists.  We aren’t afraid to try something different”.

Just as PISMO has evolved over the past twenty years, so has glass art.  Sandy says, “We’ve had the opportunity to host many world renowned artists – Dale Chihuly visited the gallery in 1995 for the grand opening of our then new location and Lino Tagliapietra (arguably the best glass artist in the world), now 75, has visited the gallery five times and will be coming again on July 17th for his sixth solo exhibition at the gallery.”

The PISMO galleries are recognized internationally for the breadth and depth of their collections.  The gallery is often compared to a museum due to its large selection of works by many other world renowned artists in addition to Chihuly and Tagliapietra.  We also enjoy representing and mentoring emerging artists, helping to boost their recognition in the field of glass.

Sandy loves glass art and has thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of introducing the medium to thousands of people.  She says, “I’ve always said I will continue to do this as long as I’m having fun.  And I’m still having fun… most days!”

The Denver gallery is located at 2770 East Second Avenue in Cherry Creek North. Their web site can be found at http://www.pismoglass.com.

NorthCreek welcomes Judy Fahrenkrog to its sales team
Well respected broker specializes in the high-end market, and willdraw on her experience of working with niche markets while representing the exclusive Cherry Creek North development

Denver, CO (November 2009) – The development team of NorthCreek is pleased to announce the addition of Judy Fahrenkrog to its sales team as a broker associate. Ms. Fahrenkrog has represented some of the most exclusive and high-end residential properties in Colorado since 1992, and has established herself as one of the country’s premier real estate brokers.

“It’s a pleasure to join NorthCreek, perhaps Denver’s best kept real estate secret,” said Ms. Fahrenkrog. “There are incredible advantages that NorthCreek has over any other new residential development, anywhere in the Denver metro area. The fact that NorthCreek’s construction is complete, and the development team has significant financial backing, removes the question marks many buyers have today with some other local projects. That’s one of the main reasons I chose to join this team.

“Knowing that NorthCreek will be here today, and for the next 100 years, gives people an incredible amount of comfort in their real estate investment at this property,” she continued. “This is a rare treasure, located in the heart of Denver’s finest neighborhood, and there will never be another comparable location in Cherry Creek North. Once these units are gone, that’s it.”

To date, NorthCreek has sold 75 percent of its Tower building, with buyers in occupancy, and unveiled its Brownstones last spring. The project’s three phases are 100 percent complete, and are ready for immediate occupancy.

A fourth generation Colorado native, Ms. Fahrenkrog plans to apply her niche marketing and sales skills – along with her local knowledge -- as she represents NorthCreek’s condos, brownstones and flats.

“NorthCreek is a coveted address, and we’re working with a very select group of highly sophisticated buyers,” said David Steel, partner of Western Development Group, the developer of NorthCreek. “Judy understands the market we’re appealing to, and she personally understands what makes our location in Cherry Creek North so desirable and unique. For Judy, being a broker is more than just selling real estate. She is heartfelt in her approach and helps her clients understand the vision of what makes a place special.”

“NorthCreek is easily among the most elegant and quality-oriented residential developments I’ve ever represented,” commented Ms Fahrenkrog. “Its premier Denver location -- in one of the city’s most charming, inviting and stately neighborhoods -- features world class shopping, dining and entertainment either right outside the front door, or just minutes away. People who visit NorthCreek for the first time will instantly appreciate its level of quality, and I’m looking forward to further introducing them to all the things that make NorthCreek great.”

Prior to joining NorthCreek, Ms. Fahrenkrog was a broker associate at Kentwood City Properties and marketed properties in Castle Pines Village exclusively since 1992, where she sold approximately $180 million worth of real estate. She has consistently been recognized as a Top Producer, and recently served on the Board of Directors of the Denver Board of Realtors.
