The Philadelphia Print Shop West is the first satellite branch for the venerable Philadelphia Print Shop, one of the nation’s leading galleries of original historical prints and antique maps. Owned by Donald H. Cresswell and Christopher W. Lane, the Philadelphia Print Shop has a national reputation for its excellent inventory, historically researched and documented, and led Cresswell and Lane to be selected as the print and map experts for Antiques Roadshow.
The Philadelphia Print Shop has one of the best inventories of antique prints and maps in the country, which now will be shared between the East Coast and the West, though everything will be available through their web site. The Philadelphia Print Shop West will exhibit the full range of natural history , Americana, historical, sporting and topographical prints, with prints such as those by Currier & Ives, John James Audubon, Basil Besler, A.B. Frost and Frederic Remington. The gallery will also have a wide selection of maps of all parts of the world from the sixteenth through early twentieth century.
A main emphasis of the shop, naturally, will be Western material. This includes maps of Colorado and the western U.S., showing the political and social development of the Trans-Mississippi West. Also featured will be prints of Native Americans, such as those by McKenney & Hall, George Catlin and Karl Bodmer. The Philadelphia Print Shop West carries not only a wide panorama of subjects, but items in all prices ranges. This is well demonstrated by the selection of antique views of Denver and the American West, which run from $35 on up to the thousands.
