“The New North”
In November of 2010, the BID financed and managed the design and construction of “The New North,” an $18.5 million streetscape renovation effort created to retain and attract visitors and users, and to protect and preserve the District’s character, while keeping it a competitive retail environment.
Improvements included new landscaping to beautify the area and conserve water, new lighting for safety and energy conservation, improved wayfinding signs, 23 new Art and Garden places and upgraded infrastructure. The District’s signature event space, Fillmore Plaza, also received a significant renovation, allowing it to host a wider range of large events. The project was completed in July of 2011.
Fillmore Plaza Renovation
As one of the major gateways in to Cherry Creek North, Fillmore Plaza was redesigned to enhance pedestrian, event and retail activity on the block.
Upgraded features included special trees and landscaping, lighting, environmental graphics, street furniture and a central canopy-like shade structure. Since its renovation in 2011, the plaza has hosted numerous events that bring thousands of people to the area. In 2013, Fillmore Plaza won the Denver Mayor’s Design Award.
