DIRECTOR of PUBLIC SAFETY
Position Summary
The Director of Public Safety's role is an exciting new position for Cherry Creek North. This role will be instrumental in developing and executing a comprehensive safety program addressing the needs of the district. The Director is responsible for all activities related to ensuring the district is safe and welcoming for all.
The position will interface with district constituents including property owners, retailers, employees, guests, residents, local law enforcement, and political leaders. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with city staff, civil authorities, and other public safety professionals.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security, public safety, law enforcement and project – team management. Candidates must have demonstrated communication and consensus-building skills.
About the position
- Plan, assist and execute programs under the Security Strategic Action Plan.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations of the private public safety team and off-duty Denver Police patrol program.
- Drive implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive strategy that impacts safety and security in Cherry Creek North. This involves strategic planning, operations, and stakeholder engagement to ensure that real and perceived safety in the Cherry Creek North area is a top priority.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive performance measurement process that demonstrates impact and return on investment for security spending in Cherry Creek North.
- Convene and support stakeholder groups including business and property owners, key security personnel including civil authorities to implement strategies and best practices related to public safety.
- Act as liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement, emergency preparedness partners, as well as private security personnel. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with appropriate contacts in law enforcement to ensure smooth flow of intelligence information including evaluation of and recommended action on information.
- Seek government and/or private sector grants to enhance safety and security as needed.
- Coordinate crisis and incident management on behalf of the district
- Participate as a spokesperson for security matters throughout the district with stakeholders.

About You

- Ability to initiate and manage relationships with internal and external partners.
- Strong analytical skills and well-developed business acumen; strong relationship management instincts; savvy for gaining buy-in from various stakeholders.
- Orientation as a team player and leader with strong management skills.
- A metrics-driven, entrepreneurial mindset that informs strategy and work.
- Experience managing contracts; creating and publishing request for proposals, evaluating candidates, negotiating contracts, ensuring contractor meets contractual obligations, mediating contract discrepancies.
- Knowledge of emergency preparedness and the National Incident Management System.
- Ability to easily network and establish rapport and connections with individuals and a myriad of groups.
- Flexibility to work varied hours for events and to meet deadlines.
- Five years of experience in public safety, security or law enforcement related sectors.
- Bachelor’s degree or five years of experience
- ASIS CPP certification or similar certification / training.
- Experience and knowledge of law enforcement field including day-to-day operations management, security technology, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design methods and concepts.
