Frye Receives Award for Outstanding Retail Design; Denver Wins Store of the Year at Shop! Association Design Awards
April 5, 2017
Last week, the retail design industry awarded The Frye Company’s Denver store with top honors as Shop! Design Store of the Year. The 2,200-square foot space exhibits the signature quality and craft of the brand’s 154-year history while bringing together modern, ski-lodge inspired touches that create an authentic connection to the local Denver community. The store’s design celebrates Frye’s enduring artisan heritage and the award is the brand’s latest accolade.
As the original craftsmen of American footwear, The Frye Company has received design awards for each generation of retail stores. In 2011/2012, Frye SoHo was honored with the A.R.E. Award for store design and Platinum Leed Certification, while in 2014 Frye Atlanta store was awarded 1st place in Soft-line specialty retail in Footwear by the Retail Design Institute. The retail spaces incorporate materials that highlight the craft of old-school shoe making, while
creating a modern feel, using minimal fixtures and lighter wood detailing.
The Denver concept celebrates the company’s rich history as well as the local flair of the Colorado City. The shop, fashioned with the signature harness ring chandelier comprised of 10,000 harness rings hung on 2,500 leather straps, speaks to the authentic craftsmanship at the heart of The Frye Company. The interior boasts an ambiance that is warm and inviting - including a functioning fireplace enclosed in stone sourced from local quarries, dramatic
lighting and the ultimate ski lodge aesthetic.
The Frye Company will open locations in Lexington, KY, Seattle WA, and the brand’s second NYC store, in Flatiron district, expanding the store count to 16. These locations were selected because they represent destinations with known brand enthusiasts, thus creating an authentic and experiential connection for Frye to the local customer and community.
About The Frye Company
In 1863, John A. Frye opened the doors to his very first store, paving the way for countless generations of artisans. As the original craftsmen of American footwear, Frye continues to honor a passion for creating iconic styles using the finest leathers. Rooted in tradition, Frye was originally inspired by our everyday American heroes over the
decades. Cavalry infantrymen. World War II soldiers. Fighter pilots. Factory workers. Word of Frye’s uncompromising quality and reputation spread. Frye has since become an American icon, worn by the courageous and the cool, from John Lennon to Jackie O.
