Cherry Creek North’s Hotel Clio is a stunning venue with top-notch amenities, luxurious accommodations and terrific dining. When it comes to service, the hotel is second to none, thanks in large part to George Maresh, the popular concierge who is always ready with a big smile, a friendly demeanor, and a helping hand.
Marriott MVP Award-Winning Concierge
Acting as each guest’s personal in-house expert for everything from restaurant and shopping tips to fun activities, George’s incredible knowledge of Denver recently earned him a coveted Marriott MVP Award for outstanding concierge.
Sponsored by Marriott Business Council, the award came as a surprise to George, who was selected from a large field of contenders. A hotel veteran of many years, George has been with Hotel Clio (previously called the JW Marriott) for 14 years, earning his earlier stripes in room management, front office jobs and clerk in hotels in Chicago and Denver.
Coming to Hotel Clio
Five years ago, the concierge role was reintroduced at Hotel Clio, and George jumped at the opportunity to do what he loves best – ensure every guest enjoys the best possible hotel experience. Reviews on TripAdvisor say it all, painting the picture of George as “a friend, an advisor, an individual who goes well above and beyond to make hotel guests feel at home.”
Like many industries, the landscape of the hotel business has changed since Covid. ”We came back with limited staff and scaled-down service, which was a challenge. Most of our guests were understanding, but there were some who wanted everything to run like the old way and were upset when we had mandatory requirements such as wearing a mask in the public areas, or housekeeping every few days,” George says.
George's Top Cherry Creek North Recommendations
A native Denverite, George loves living and working in Colorado, and especially the Cherry Creek North neighborhood. He is intimately familiar with the special spots that make the area unique and charming and thrives on establishing ties to a variety of local businesses. “The traveling public is so glad to have the concierge back,” George enthuses. “I recognize this and work very hard to establish great relationships in the area … and I have a fantastic rolodex!”
While concierges still play an important role in the overall guest experience, George says that many individuals like to do more of the legwork when it comes to planning their stay. “Even so, I still like to ask guests where they’re dining, and when I find out I call the restaurant to let them know they’re guests of ours.” Going above and beyond, George makes it a point to learn about guests, becoming familiar with their preferences so he can steer them to local spots they’ll appreciate and enjoy. “Of course I also love to point them in the direction of some of my personal favorites such as Le Merise, Cucina Colore and The Cherry Cricket. These are fun experiences and guests love the food and atmosphere.”
So what’s George’s favorite aspect of working in Cherry Creek North? ”I like the activity, and I like the constant change. I just hope we can retain the local flavor of the area, which makes it all so wonderful. It’s the unique stores and restaurants that guests like to frequent, and hopefully they’ll remain a part of it all,” he says.
