Cherry Creek North Named Top U.S. Shopping Area by USA Today

The 16-Block District boasts the highest walk score in the metro area along with 260 retailers, 70% of which are locally owned.

In an article published May 5, 2017, USA Today names Cherry Creek North (CCN) among the 10 most vibrant shopping districts across the country.  CCN, located between University Boulevard and Steele Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue, boasts the highest walk score in the metro area along with 260 retailers, 70% of which are locally owned.

“They [Cherry Creek North] have what I call the X-Factor of Urbanism. Very cool, historic and filled with interesting shops and restaurants, surrounded with walkable neighborhoods,” says Robert Gibbs, an urban planner who has worked with 300 cities and teaches at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.

Touting a Walk Score of 95, Cherry Creek North is all about finding everything in one convenient and walkable area. The 16-block District, along with the shopping center across the street, has the highest concentration of high-end retail in the region.  CCN is home to an impressive collection of independent shops, well-established galleries, renowned restaurants and more.

“Cherry Creek North is thriving and vibrant,” said Julie Underdahl, President and CEO of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District.  “With 35 new retailers and restaurants opening in the past 12 months, many of which are locally owned or first to market in Colorado, it’s no wonder Cherry Creek North is regarded as the number one place to shop, dine and stay in the City.”

Today, there is even more to walk to CCN. More residential mid-rises, luxury hotels and state-of-the-art office buildings are bringing residents, visitors and office employees into the District. In the last five years alone, residential units have increased 26%, hotels rooms have increased 67%, office space has increased 18% and retail space has increased 16%. The redevelopment has resulted in new, unique businesses opening their doors, treasured retailers expanding their spaces and more visitors making Cherry Creek North their favorite destination.
