Christopher W. Lane, owner, The Philadelphia Print Shop West, will discuss the development of the American West in the 19th century.  In 1800, what is today the American West consisted of three non-US territories; by the end of the century it was all part of the U.S. and consisted of 23 political divisions.  How those borders were changed was a fascinating process influenced by politics, economics and--to a great extent--prejudice. This lecture will review those changes, using contemporary maps as illustrations.

The talk is free and open to anyone, but registration is required. Register here.
